Managing Childhood Anxiety

Are your child’s worries and fears taking away the joy of childhood? The STG Childhood Anxiety Program can help. Our program combines effective Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with parenting support to help your child overcome anxiety.

For Kids age 7+

You’ve always been deeply connected to your child, but you may have started noticing signs of anxiety that raise concerns. Maybe your child seems unusually worried, avoids activities they used to enjoy, or experiences difficulty with school drop-offs. It’s distressing to see your child struggle and not fully understand how to help, especially when they find it hard to express what they’re feeling.

Despite seeking advice from your child’s pediatrician or discussing it with other parents, you might feel they don’t truly see the depth of your child’s anxiety. Children often mask their worries in various settings, making it hard for others to recognize the extent of their struggles.

As a psychotherapist and teacher with more than 20 years of experience with childhood anxiety, I provide a supportive and understanding environment where your child can learn to cope with and articulate their anxieties. My approach involves teaching resilience-building techniques that help children regain confidence and participate more fully in their daily lives. I also work closely with parents and caregivers, equipping you with tools to effectively support your child’s emotional well-being at home.

Counselling for Families with Anxious Children

Children with anxiety often rely heavily on their parents for reassurance and support. While it’s natural for children to trust their parents, this can sometimes hinder their independence. Our program aims to empower children and parents by teaching them the necessary skills to manage anxiety. This means that parents also attend sessions about their child’s anxiety, and learn essential parenting skills to further manage their child’s anxiety.

Our program also emphasizes the importance of facing fears rather than avoiding them. By gradually exposing children to their fears in a controlled manner, we help them build confidence and reduce anxiety.

The benefits of our program can include reduced anxiety symptoms, improved school performance, increased confidence, better peer relationships, and increased engagement in activities. We provide a supportive environment where children can learn to manage their anxiety and lead happier, healthier lives.

At STG La Ronge, we use the highly acclaimed therapy program “Cool Kids.” This program combines anxiety counselling with structured parenting skills for helping families manage anxiety. The Cool Kids program is combined with proven techniques from the SPACE program, developed at Yale University.
